OVATION HERE TO STAY!

At Ovation, we strive to bring joy and inspiration into your homes through the great programmes on the Ovation Channel. From the moving performances, the Broadway films and classic drama, you can find it all here.

Unfortunately, Foxtel has decided to replace Ovation with a new SBS channel and, therefore, Ovation will no longer be shown as part of your regular Foxtel or Austar package from the end of March.

However, we have some great news!

The team at Ovation have worked hard to negotiate a new relationship with Foxtel to keep the Ovation Channel alive and, from June 1, Ovation will become a premium, "Stand Alone" subscription channel.

From June 1, Ovation will be bigger and better than ever, showing new, quality programs from all of your favourite stars and presenters, with programs uninterrupted by commercials.

Plus, only Ovation subscribers will have access to:

  • Special competitions with fantastic prizes

OVATION CHANNEL CHANGES
 
Q: Why is the Ovation Channel changing?
A: Foxtel have decided to replace Ovation with a new SBS owned arts channel. This change also applies to Austar subscribers. Foxtel have claimed to want to create a new channel which is “more relevant” and “targeted to a younger audience”. To do this they required the channel space that Ovation currently occupies. The Ovation Channel is an independently run and owned company, separate to Foxtel. The original decision to cancel Ovation from the Foxtel broadcast was not one that the team at Ovation had any input into. However, because we are all very passionate about what we do we wanted to find a way to continue to provide quality entertainment to our loyal viewers. After reviewing many options the solution we came to was to offer the Ovation Channel, as a new “stand alone” channel for a small fee.
 
Q: Is this an attempt from Foxtel or the Ovation Channel to get more money out of me?
A: Not at all. The Ovation Channel is a completely separate company from Foxtel. However, Foxtel control the channels included in their broadcast. The Ovation Channel have had to purchase a new, stand-alone broadcast licence from Foxtel to allow us to continue broadcasting. For us to remain on the air we need to charge a nominal subscription fee to cover the licence costs that Foxtel charges us.
 
Q: When will the change-over occur?
A: Ovation Channel will discontinue from your regular Foxtel “Knowledge and Adventure” package on channel 132 from March 31. The new Ovation Channel will reappear in the new format on channel 134 June 1, 2010. During the change-over period there will be a temporary “blackout” of the Ovation Channel from March 31 until June 1.
 
Q: I’m on Austar/Optus/SelecTV. What is happening with the Ovation Channel for me?
A: Optus and SelecTV customers will continue to receive The Ovation Channel as part of their basic package as normal. Nothing will change for Optus and SelecTV customers. For Austar customers, you will need to subscribe directly to AUSTAR either online (click here for form) or Ph: 132 432

Q: How much will I have to pay?
A: The subscription fee for Foxtel viewers to continue to receive the Ovation Channel is $119.00 (which is approximately $9.95 per month). This is a one-off annual payment.

Q: Can I pay my subscription monthly?
A: Yes, if you are paying by credit card or direct debit.
 
Q: I would like to go about confirming my subscription to the new Ovation Channel. If I hand over my credit card details will I be charged immediately?
A: No, you won't be charged until late May, just before The Ovation Channel relaunches.
 
Q: How do I find my smart card number?
A: The smart card is about the same size and shape as a credit card and sits inside the Foxtel Box. The identification number is also stored on your Foxtel system, so you can access the information through the menus as follows:
  • FOXTEL
    • Press the 'Active' button on your Foxtel remote (it is towards the top of the remote near the ‘TV Guide' and 'Planner' buttons).
    • A menu of options will open up
    • Select option 1 – System Setup
    • Select option 4 – System Settings
    • Select option 3 – System Details
    • A page of information should open up with your smart card number displayed
    • Once you have noted down your smart card number, press the 'Back' button on the remote to exit the menu
  • FOXTEL IQ & IQ2
    • Press the 'Active' button on your Foxtel remote (it is towards the top of the remote near the ‘TV Guide' and 'Planner' buttons).
    • A menu of options will open up
    • Select option 1 – System Setup
    • Select option 4 - Advanced Settings
    • Select option 3 - System Details
    • A page of information should open up with your smart card number displayed
    • Once you have noted down your smart card number, press the 'Back' button on the remote to exit the menu
 
ABOUT THE NEW OVATION CHANNEL
 
Q: You say that Ovation is becoming a “stand alone channel”. What does this mean?
A: Because we will no longer be included in your regular Foxtel package, which would normally include the Ovation Channel, we become what is known as a “stand alone channel”. This is to say, the Ovation Channel is not tied to any other Foxtel package.
 
Q: It would seem that you are also offering added extras as part of your new subscription. What are they?
A: Because of our new mode of operation, particularly with charging a new subscription fee, we understand that we need to provide more value for your hard-earned dollar. The new Ovation Channel will soon offer you:
  • Discounted tickets to upcoming concerts* (* Certain conditions may apply)
  • Store-wide discounts and special deals at the Ovation Shop
  • Access to exclusive competitions with fantastic prizes
  • Great new shows from all of your favourite entertainers and presenters
 
Q: Will the Ovation Channel still be the same?
A: Yes, but it will be even better! We aim to make the Ovation experience even more enjoyable by showing all of your favourite shows and performers, but including more new programs from around the world.
 
Q: I've heard that Ovation won’t be available on Foxtel after March. Is this true?
A: No. There will be a temporary "black out" of the Ovation Channel from March 31 until June 1. However, from June 1 the Ovation Channel will resume on channel 134 as a premium channel.
 
Q: I've been told that the new Stvdio channel on Foxtel is going to be the same as Ovation or that the new Stvdio channel is just Ovation with a new name. Is this true?
A: No. The new Stvdio channel, delivered by SBS, is completely separate and independent of Ovation. It commenced broadcast on channel 132 from April 1, and it has been reported that its content is aimed at a younger demographic.
 
Q: When will we be able to see the closing episodes of "House of Eliott" and other series when Ovation goes off air?
A: The Ovation Channel is continuing as normal on Optus TV and SelectTV so those subscribers will continue to see episodes. Ovation intends to repeat Series 2 of "House of Eliott" when the channel goes back on air on Foxtel and Austar in June.
